Coaching careers deserve to be remembered
A football coach who has been at it for 15 years has coached hundreds of sessions, worked with thousands of players, and had moments that shaped who they are. Almost none of it is written down. It lives in their head -- fading with every passing season.
Most coaches do some form of reflection, in their head at least. But without a dedicated place to capture it, those thoughts disappear by Thursday. The patterns that could help you grow, and the memories that make the job meaningful, both go the same way.
CoachReflection is built for both. Structured post-session reflection so you keep improving. And a journal where you capture the moments you never want to forget.
Two types of entry. One coaching archive.
Every coaching moment has its place -- whether it is a structured session review or a memory you want to keep.
Session reflections
Guided questions after each session. What worked, what did not, which players stood out, what to focus on next. Structured enough to be useful, fast enough to actually do after a long evening session.
- Guided reflection prompts
- Mood and energy tracking
- Player mentions and development notes
- AI pattern detection over time
Journal entries
Free-form entries for anything worth keeping. A match-day photo. A tournament write-up. The conversation with a player that changed your thinking. A qualification milestone. Your coaching career in your own words.
- Free-form text entries
- Photo attachments (up to 10 per entry)
- Backdating for older memories
- On This Day memories on the dashboard
Your coaching past, surfaced every day

Built by a coach
UEFA licensed. 15 years in Scottish football. Over 1,000 players from grassroots to professional. Assistant manager at Hamilton Academical Women's when they won SWPL 2.
I built CoachReflection because I was the problem. Sessions I could not remember. Players I wanted to track but had no system for. Moments I wanted to keep but had nowhere to put them. The journal you are reading about is the one I built for myself, that I wish I had had from the start.

Coaching Journal FAQ
What is a coaching journal?
A coaching journal is a record of your coaching sessions, observations, and career milestones. Unlike a standard notebook, a digital coaching journal like CoachReflection stores your entries permanently, allows you to attach photos, and surfaces past memories to remind you how far you have come. It is a professional archive of your coaching life.
What should a coaching journal include?
A coaching journal should capture: what happened in each session, what worked and what did not, notes on individual players, your emotional state as a coach, match results and context, photos from training or match days, and anything significant you want to remember. CoachReflection provides guided prompts so you never stare at a blank page.
How is a coaching journal different from a coaching reflection?
A reflection is a structured analysis of a specific session -- what worked, what did not, what to improve. A journal entry is freer: you might write about a memorable win, attach photos from a tournament, record a conversation with a parent that stayed with you, or note a personal milestone. CoachReflection supports both in one place.
Can I add photos to my coaching journal?
Yes. Pro and Pro+ subscribers can attach up to 10 photos per journal entry. You can upload training photos, match-day shots, screenshots, certificates, team celebrations, or anything worth keeping. Photos are stored securely and only visible to you.
Does CoachReflection show me past memories?
Yes. The dashboard includes an On This Day section that shows you entries from previous years. If you coached a cup final two years ago today, you will see it. This feature only works once you have been journalling for at least a year.
Is my coaching journal private?
Yes. Your journal entries are private by default. Nothing is shared without your explicit action. You can optionally make specific reflections public to share with your club or add to your coaching portfolio.
